Getting Started
Using Deceased Online you can search UK burial and cremation registers, free of charge, by Region, County, Burial Authority, Cemetery or Crematorium.
To perform a quick search
Simply enter the name of the deceased, and optionally a burial or cremation date range, and click the search button to retrieve the matching records. Only the Surname is mandatory for a search; the other fields will allow you to refine the search and return fewer records to view.
Results are returned in a simple table, showing up to ten entries at a time. If your search has returned more than 10 records (or the number per page if set to be more than 10) then you may browse through these records by clicking on the Next and Previous buttons, or clicking on a page number from the list.
If you have information which could be used to refine your search further, click on "Advanced Search" to go to the advanced search facility.
Once you think you have found the register entry you are looking for, you can view a free summary of the types of information that are available for that entry, which you can view as a registered user. This information can include:
- Computerised registers
- Digital scans of registers
- Photographs of graves and memorials
- Cemetery maps showing grave locations
- Grave details including other occupants
Click on the information you wish to view, and if you are registered, logged in and have a sufficient account balance then you will be taken to those details. Otherwise you will have a chance to login, register or purchase vouchers before being taken on to that information.
In addition to our normal buirials and cremations register searching, we have introduced a new kind of dataset called a collection. Collections are typically records, and possibly images, that have not been indexed to the same extent as our standard records, and are often best searched by browsing through them. If they are indexed by surname, and possibly forename as well, then an item will appear in the results list for each collection with matches to the surname/forename you are looking for, with a count of how many matches have been found in each case. Click on the entry to display the options to purchase, which will usually include the whole collection, or just those records with the surname in question.
